I’ve been kicking around ideas for some time. The Z has original paint and it’s not all great. The hood was banged up and fixed so parts don’t match, so I guess I plan to get a carbon hood and wrap it to the fenders like a rally car. It also unfortunately has the side trim, I hate it, but there are holes and another reason repainting would be forced on me. So.... I was thinking of removing the side trim and doing some kind of livery where the vinyl covered the holes from the side trim removal. In any case, there are a lot of options and I have kept a file of them. The car is orange, so thats a place to start considering options.
Also a BRE style rear spoiler is going on as we speak, like this:
Step 1,
Hood and black out. I get carbon lightness and still get the period correctness. They make a carbon cowl as well, anything that won’t rust!
Step 2,
Some kind of livery...so many options. I like art cars, so I began looking out for ways I could make a Japanese art car, like the famous BMW cars artists have designed liveries for. The Contemporary Museum in Tokyo used these designs on their posters around the city, I saw them and thought they could be arranged into a livery. I could even incorporate it into the hood wrap, make is slightly a different color so it isn’t super obvious, like a dark blue on black:
Other options:
I love this Motul livery, I wish I had the group 4 Pantera! I could change this to fit the Z.
I love the Canon film strip stripe
Also fonts for number if I had one:
The 70's was a bit of the 60's but they started getting very stripy and geometric colors.
Lower key option:
I get some inspiration from this 2002, I could just do the black on orange, make a stripe in orange to match the car color to cover the strip of holes and get a few tasteful sponsors and a windscreen banner. I have a BRE Spook air dam like the BMW has.
So hard to decide!!
My car, soon to have an update

I’m all in favor for any and all posts involving the Z. Like Celica quantities.

When it comes to S30 racing liveries you really can’t go wrong.

I don’t like the idea of a carbon hood. They never fit right, and cheapen the look of the car. Have you had a detailer buff it? The paint might match better if the older paint is brought back to life.

I think a Seibon hood will fit well, I’ve seen them look just fine. It would be wrapped or painted.

First pic of yours... Neptune’s Net? Only been there once so far but something reminded me of it.

Rear window louvers. When i was a wee oppo every z i would see had them. There is something missing without them in my mind.

I love the idea of the Japanese art car with really subtle versions of those posters.
How about a matte black wrap with gloss black vinyl patterns? I've seen that on a couple of cars and it's really striking, plus it would allow you to keep the original paint underneath if you ever wanted to take it back.

Dude!
How do you like those Enkei Compe wheels? They look really good!

They really made a difference, I did proper lowering springs and new shocks, plus strut tower braces. Much tighter car now. Yeah they look good, more like the Japanese rims. I wish they made Z432 reproductions.

Anything that won’t rust is a welcome addition to any Datsun, haha. This is great inspiration for my own car ! I love the second style of numbers you posted, where are they from?

I usually check out graphic design magazines in Japan and it was in one of those I think. You usually get random bits but sometimes like the other one you get 0 through 9 or alphabet etc.
